Our History
-
2010: Founding of Thespian Arts Academy
The Thespian Arts Academy was founded in 2010 by Eleanor Vance, a renowned actress and director with extensive experience in both stage and screen. Driven by a passion for nurturing emerging talent, Eleanor envisioned a school that would provide actors with the skills, knowledge, and connections they need to thrive in the competitive world of performing arts. The Academy initially opened its doors in a small studio space in the heart of Greenwich Village, offering a limited number of introductory acting classes.
-
2013: Expansion and New Courses
Due to increasing demand and the Academy's growing reputation, Thespian Arts Academy expanded its facilities in 2013, moving to a larger space in the Theater District. This expansion allowed the Academy to offer a wider range of courses, including scene study, improvisation, voice and speech, and acting for film and television. The Academy also introduced its first masterclass series, featuring guest instructors from Broadway and Hollywood.
-
2016: Launch of the Musical Theatre Program
In 2016, Thespian Arts Academy launched its highly acclaimed Musical Theatre Performance program. This comprehensive program integrates acting, singing, and dancing, providing students with the skills they need to excel in musical theatre productions. The program quickly gained popularity, attracting students from across the country and solidifying the Academy's position as a leading training center for musical theatre performers.
-
2020: Adapting to a Changing World
The year 2020 brought unprecedented challenges to the performing arts industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Thespian Arts Academy remained committed to its students, quickly adapting its curriculum to offer online classes and workshops. This innovative approach allowed students to continue their training remotely, maintaining their artistic growth and connection to the Academy community during a difficult time. The Academy also launched a series of virtual masterclasses and networking events, providing students with valuable opportunities to learn from and connect with industry professionals.
-
2023: Return to In-Person Instruction and New Initiatives
In 2023, Thespian Arts Academy joyfully returned to in-person instruction, welcoming students back to its studios in the Theater District. The Academy also launched several new initiatives, including a scholarship program for talented and deserving students, and a partnership with local theaters to provide internship opportunities for graduates.
